Repair of Metztronic PLC-controlled ladder engine
Client: G4S Fire Services Ltd
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Details
The METZ DLK 30 PLC III is the only such ladder engine in the East and Central Africa region and is used for fire rescue in high rise buildings. The PLC coordinates the simultaneous positioning of cage and jacks, this shortens set-up times. Additionally all ladder movements, elevation - extension - rotations are possible at the same time.
PLC also monitors important safety devices. All the movements of the turntable ladder and loading on the ladder set are detected continuously by the METZ weighing system and processed by the PLC control. Just short of the permitted loading limits, movements are slowed down or stopped, as appropriate, leaving possible only movements sequences which reduce the loading.
The project involved diagnostics and repair of the PLC control system which had malfunctioned. Nerokas engineers were able to bring the system to previous normal working condition to the satisfaction of the client.
Design And Fabrication Of An Industrial Automation Demo Kit (NE-SS/3)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Details
The NE-SS/3 is a top of the range industrial automation demo kit. It depicts a scaled down industrial process that incorporates the following:- pneumatics and electro pneumatics, PLC control, SCADA, HMI and sensors.
The project involved designing and fabricating a demo kit that basically demonstrates easy control of an industrial process via HMI, PLC and computerized data acquisition.
The demo kit is a sorting station that sorts metallic and non-metallic objects from a conveyor system using pneumatics and sensors. The Siemens S7-200 PLC controls the process and a WIEINTEK HMI displays the system's process (number of metallic and non-metallic objects sorted), alarms and real time/historical process trends.
Design of an advanced water filtration system with computerised supervision and process control (SCADA)
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Details
The system processes automated are:
- backwash
- chemical dosing
- forward flush
- normal filtration
The system was simulated on Siemens WinCC flexible 2008 and integrated with Siemens Simatic Manager for a S7300 plc program
20 tags were used to connect the plc outputs to the WinCC flexible SCADA system
